Researching and developing three new Ocean Conservation actions (Post #9)

Hello, handsome harp seals!

Discussing what we’ve done is beneficial, but it’s also crucial to plan and implement new actions in Ocean Conservation. Recently, I’ve been developing three new ideas.

The first one is a type of game or quiz that helps people determine what type of Ocean Conservation actions suit them best. The idea is to make Ocean Conservation fun and accessible for everyone. I would like to motivate participants to contribute to ocean conservation by creating an educational, engaging, and action-oriented experience. This game could be presented at various occasions: on my website, as an app, and at local events, fairs, or festivals. I’m using the AI Perplexity to develop it, and I’m amazed at the speed, efficiency, thoroughness, and pertinence of the results. The different suggested actions in Ocean Conservation could be, for example:

  1. Donate money to an Ocean Conservation organization (like the Bloom Association or Océans connectés)
  2. Send a letter or email to a representative
  3. Sign a petition
  4. Share online Ocean Conservation material through social media
  5. Read the labels of fish products to make sure the fishing methods used are eco-friendly
  6. Make Ocean Conservation artwork
  7. Buy non-synthetic and earth-friendly clothing and textiles
  8. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  9. Use ocean-friendly cosmetics and sun cream
  10. Offset carbon emissions when traveling by airplane

The second Ocean Conservation action I’m developing is a local, in-person workshop for teenagers to familiarize them with careers in Ocean Conservation. I’m building on the insight gained in my Ocean Conservation journey that in-person interactions are more impactful than reading, screens or websites. I’d like to coach this workshop at key life moments :

  • At the end of sixth grade (primary school), when choosing a secondary school
  • At the end of high school, when deciding “what they want to be when they grow up”

I believe that it’s important to make Ocean Conservation present in local communities, whether they’re close to the coast or not. All countries, communities, and people have an impact on Ocean Conservation, in many different ways, and awareness of this must be increased. Through this action, I’ll be putting into practice the principle “Bloom where you’re planted.” I’ve come to embrace my current life, location, and job. I’ve decided that my mission is to bring the ocean to where I currently am, instead of moving to the ocean.

The third Ocean Conservation action I’m developing is becoming a mermaid instructor. Hopefully, the classes I teach will combine the fun, fitness, and playfulness of mermaiding with raising awareness for Ocean Conservation. Today I’ll be participating in my last PADI Advanced Mermaid class to earn my certification. The next step is more mermaid practice and undertaking my mermaid instructor classes.

These three actions are exciting, and I’m thrilled to work on them!

Together, let’s make Ocean Conservation a habit!
