{"id":456,"date":"2025-08-11T19:54:59","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T17:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nhbodin.com\/?p=456"},"modified":"2025-08-17T20:14:54","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T18:14:54","slug":"petition-signing-for-ocean-conservation-post-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nhbodin.com\/?p=456","title":{"rendered":"Petition signing for Ocean Conservation (Post #8)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ahoy, extraordinary eels!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today&#8217;s post is about an action I&#8217;ve undertaken recently for Ocean Conservation: petition signing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the <a href=\"https:\/\/petitions.bloomassociation.org\/en\">Bloom Association&#8217;s website<\/a>, I signed the following <strong>eight<\/strong> petitions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>For truly protected &#8220;marine protected&#8221; areas (<strong>305,587\u00a0signatures<\/strong><\/strong>)<strong>. <\/strong>The petition calls on the <strong>French President, Emmanuel Macron<\/strong>, to ban destructive fishing methods and industrial activities in so-called \u201cprotected\u201d marine areas without further delay.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For French support of the fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty (<strong>4,650\u00a0signatures<\/strong><\/strong>)<strong>.<\/strong> The petition is also addressed to <strong>the French President<\/strong>: We ask you to speak out today in favor of the initiative for an international treaty on the non-proliferation of fossil fuels and support the opening of international negotiations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/petitions.bloomassociation.org\/en\/fossilfuelsubsidies\">\u202f<\/a><strong>To stop fueling climate chaos: stop fossil fuel subsidies in the EU (<strong>6,797<\/strong> signature<\/strong>s).<strong>\u202f<\/strong>The petition asks the <strong>European Union<\/strong> and national EU governments to :\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>STOP financing fossil fuels.\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>STOP financing the most polluting sectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>STOP financing industrial fishing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mercury in tuna: supermarkets must remove poison from their shelves<\/strong> (<strong>56,546\u00a0signatures<\/strong>). The Bloom Association says that they have proven that the legal thresholds were established according to tuna contamination rates (1 mg\/kg) and not what is safe for human health (0.3 mg\/kg). This petition is addressed to the main <strong>supermarket chains<\/strong> in France, Spain, Italy and Germany: Aldi, Carrefour, Conad, Coop, Esselunga, Edeka, Intermarch\u00e9, Leclerc, Lidl, Mercadona and Rewe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Save our lives. Save the ocean (32,992\u00a0signatures).<\/strong> This petition is addressed to <strong>Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen<\/strong>, President of the European Commission. It asks her to take into account the subjects and actions raised by the other petitions. It asks her to declare a state of climate emergency in Europe and to endorse officially the \u201c15 points for the ocean.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Supermarkets must stop making us accomplices in the destruction of the ocean (<strong>48,694\u00a0signatures<\/strong><\/strong>)<strong>.<\/strong> The petition demands that <strong>Carrefour <\/strong>stop selling tuna from destructive fisheries and irresponsible processing chains.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stop &#8220;mega trawlers&#8221; (vessels over 25 meters in length) from coming too close to the coast and the beaches, where small artisanal fishers operate (<strong>78,726\u00a0signatures<\/strong><\/strong>)<strong>.<\/strong> The petition is addressed to the institutions of the <strong>European Union <\/strong>and to each EU Member State.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Quit the project to exploit two huge gas fields in South Africa, a guaranteed carnage for biodiversity and the climate (109,204\u00a0signatures).<\/strong> The petition asks Mr. Patrick Pouyann\u00e9, CEO and Board Chair of <strong>TotalEnergies<\/strong> to renouce to the exploitation of<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>two huge gas fields buried more than 1,000 meters deep off the coast of South Africa. these fields are in spectacularly rich marine areas, which provide critical protection, food and home to thousands of whales, dolphins, birds and turtles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Hopefully I&#8217;ve brought my little drop of saltwater to Ocean Conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s make waves!
